Zilch vs Avetta for Supplier Compliance

Zilch Team · · Comparison · Information reviewed

If a customer has told you to register with Avetta, buying another compliance platform will not automatically remove that requirement. Start by asking the customer whether Avetta registration is a condition of supplying them.

That point makes Zilch vs Avetta a different comparison from choosing between two interchangeable subscriptions.

Avetta supports contractor and supplier qualification, company compliance and workforce readiness within its network. Zilch helps wholesale distributors organise business, supplier and product evidence and use it to answer buyer requests.

Some businesses may need both. Others need the functions of one much more than the other. The decision starts with whether you are qualifying a company and its people for work, or answering questions about the goods your business supplies.

Why both platforms appear in supplier compliance searches

Supplier compliance is a broad label. An infrastructure company may use it to mean insurance, worker training, health and safety systems and permission to enter a worksite.

A procurement team buying uniforms may use the same phrase to mean factory audits, sourcing policies, garment test reports and evidence behind recycled-content claims.

A business supplying both products and installation services may encounter all of those requirements. The work overlaps at company level, but the underlying records differ.

That is why a search for "supplier compliance software" can return tools designed for quite different buyers. Before comparing features, write down what you need to prove, to whom and in which system.

What Avetta does

Avetta's Australian supplier offering centres on helping suppliers and contractors meet client requirements and become ready to work. Its published functions include company documentation, questionnaires, insurance and qualification workflows.

Its scope is broader than worker credentials alone. Company prequalification also covers business information, assessments and client-specific requirements. Avetta describes document review and information reuse across connected clients.

The network relationship is material. A hiring client may select Avetta as the platform through which its suppliers must qualify. In that situation, the customer determines an important part of your purchasing decision.

Ask exactly which services your client requires. Avetta's supplier plans vary according to the services needed, so a generic price comparison is unlikely to describe your situation accurately.

What Zilch does

Zilch is designed for wholesale distributors dealing with requirements about their business, suppliers and products.

That can include answering a modern slavery questionnaire, locating a factory audit, collecting a product test report and providing sustainability information for a tender. The evidence often sits across inboxes, shared drives and supplier PDFs.

Zilch helps organise that information and reuse it across buyer requests. Product-level evidence can also support customer reports and sales conversations about better alternatives within the catalogue.

This is particularly relevant to a distributor that sells goods to many unrelated buyers, each with its own forms and evidence requirements. The workload persists even when none of those buyers uses a common portal.

The comparison below shows company qualification, worker credentials, product documents, supplier evidence, customer questionnaires and network requirements as separate rows.

The buyer mandate changes the decision

Suppose a facilities customer says your company must complete its Avetta process before receiving purchase orders. Your first task is to establish the required registration, submission and approval steps.

You can ask whether another route is accepted, but do not assume it is. A Zilch report, an ISO certificate or a company policy does not automatically confer approval in the customer's chosen network.

Avetta's own supplier guidance states that invited suppliers need to register to remain eligible for the relevant client. That is a contractual or procurement requirement to resolve with the buyer, separate from what your business may be legally obliged to do.

Another platform may help organise the underlying information. It does not follow that the buyer will accept that platform as a replacement submission channel.

Consider a distributor supplying both goods and services

Take an illustrative workwear distributor that also sends staff to customer sites for fitting sessions.

The customer may want company insurance and worker access requirements handled through its contractor system. Separately, its procurement team may request garment specifications, product safety evidence, factory information and sustainability data.

The first workflow concerns whether the company and its workers can perform the activity. The second concerns whether the supplied goods and sourcing arrangements meet the purchasing specification.

A single company certificate may support both. Most of the product evidence will not be replaced by a worker qualification record.

For this distributor, a sensible implementation would identify which records can be reused and where each final approval must occur. Otherwise, employees end up maintaining duplicate files and assuming the other system has the latest version.

Ask what happens across customers outside the network

Look beyond the client that prompted the search. How many other buyers send forms, spreadsheets, procurement-portal requests or tender schedules?

Collect a representative sample. Include the buyer that uses Avetta and the buyer that sends a 12-tab Excel file. Include a renewal questionnaire from an existing account, not just new-customer onboarding.

Ask both vendors to show what happens to those requests. Can the system reuse approved information? Can it find a supporting document and identify a gap? Does your team still need to retype or re-upload the answer?

The test should reveal whether you need a network-specific qualification process, a broader internal evidence system, or a combination.

Check the product detail your buyers need

Company approval does not answer every question about an individual SKU.

A buyer may accept your insurance and sourcing policy, then ask whether a particular jacket's finish meets its chemical restrictions. Another may want an SDS for one cleaner, a food-contact report for a bottle or chain-of-custody evidence for paper products.

Ask how each proposed solution links that evidence to the item and identifies its scope. Can a certificate cover a supplier, a factory, a product family or a single model without those being confused?

A useful system also distinguishes a valid document from an accepted buyer response. The buyer may ask for additional evidence even when the original document is current.

Avoid duplicate maintenance if you use both

Choose an owner for each important record. Insurance, policies and company details should have an authoritative version and a review process.

Then define how updates reach the systems in which they are used. Establish whether a supported integration is available, whether exports are sufficient or whether someone must update the customer portal manually.

Do not assume that two products offering automation can automatically exchange information with one another. Ask for a demonstration of the actual connection and its limitations.

Also keep permissions separate from convenience. A supplier document may be suitable for internal review but contain information you are not authorised to disclose to every customer. Decide what can be shared before enabling broad reuse.

Compare cost against the work you need covered

For Avetta, request the plan and services required for your client connections, activities and workers. For Zilch, scope the supplier, product and customer-response work you want to manage.

Add implementation, ongoing administration, integrations and staff review. If the buyer mandates Avetta, treat that required cost separately from the question of whether another tool saves enough work elsewhere to justify its subscription.

You may find that the highest return comes from improving the evidence collection behind your submissions rather than replacing the submission platform itself.

Measure that return with completed requests and reviewer time. The number of documents uploaded is a weak success measure if your next buyer request still triggers the same inbox search.

Which approach fits your business

Avetta is the relevant choice when your customer requires its qualification process or when your main problem concerns contractor, supplier and workforce readiness within that network.

Zilch is worth evaluating when your wholesale team needs to organise catalogue evidence, collect supplier documents and answer varied buyer questionnaires and product requests.

For mixed requirements, map the handoff rather than forcing an artificial winner. A company can be approved to work for a customer and still need a better system for the product information that customer requests.

Bring a recent buyer questionnaire to Zilch. We can show how its evidence can be collected and reused, including which parts still need to be submitted through a buyer's chosen portal.
